I have known and loved working with this family for years, watching their oldest son grow and become a big brother. Mom and I had this session planned for some time to celebrate little bro’s 1st year in this lifetime. Unfortunately, weeks before our date, the family had suffered a grave loss and I only wish I could have taken these photos a bit sooner.
Rather than scrap the whole idea and postpone further, we agreed that it was best to get together and capture this time, as raw as they may have been feeling.
For this reason I find that documentary/lifestyle sessions really make my profession that much more meaningful. I have the honor to capture the essence of a family just doing their true day to day stuff. All truth. But aren’t these the kinds of memories we want to always remember?
Yes, of course posed shots are desirable; everyone smiling at the camera… although sometimes its forced or rushed… really not my personal style, but then some clients understand the idea I have in mind and allow me into their home for a great amount of time.
It’s always special to work with children, but even more so when I have a little longer to play and become more of a friend than just that lady with the big camera in their face 🙂
